The resourceful and clever leader of the League, Daniel Atachison Drake (aka DAD), has been at the head of the League for thirty five years. Daniel's calm demeanor hides his animate advocacy for justice. He has been rigorous to stay in shape, but in recent years his agility has been waning.

Daniel and his wife (Jessika Kieger) of eleven years have been scientists. They followed in the footsteps of their parents who were both scientists, at a university in Germany. Daniel was a physicist and Jessika was a chemical engineer. Daniel was working at a University in New England and Jessika was working with Richard Dean, at RAD Technologies.

Daniel was working quantum equations and theories of relativity. Part of his experiments dealt with contacting alternate universes, yet there are no records to the outcome of his experiments.

Jessika was developing chemicals to help the healing process. One of her experiments created a different effect. She had developed a formula that essentially turned off the immune system for most animals. If this chemical entered the body, it could render an animal defenseless without the victim even knowing it. This chemical was odorless and tasteless.

Richard Dean and Jessika had determined that in the wrong hands this chemical could be used as a weapon. It could easily be disguised and hidden in everyday food, drinks and other items consumed by the body. The started to work on counter-agents for the chemical.

It was not long after this that Daniel had returned home from work and found his wife missing. He reported her missing to the authorities. After a week, the police found nothing. Daniel, however, began to find clues of a secret organization called the Dread. With the help of Richard Dean, he was able to track down the Dread agents that captured his wife. Daniel and Richard interrogated the men.
