Bart Steinhardt is the son of a Nazi soldier. During World War II, his father served Hitler loyally for many years. When Nazi Germany was defeated, his father went into hiding. Years later, his father sold secrets to the Soviet Union. When Bart was old enough, he joined the soviet KGB, wanting to end the allied forces that destroyed his father's country. However, when the Soviet Union came near to collapse, it is suspected that Bart became involved with the Dread. In a short period of time, he quickly joined part of the top echelon of the Dread, known as the Horrors of Dread. The earliest documented encounter with Bart Steinhardt, took place in November of 1988. League agents intercepted a transmission from the Dread about a shipment of supplies crossing the Pacific Ocean and heading for the US. The shipment of supplies was intercepted and included two Soviet nuclear warheads. The warheads were turned over by the League to the US government for disposal. Knowing that Bart was the mastermind of the scheme, the League quickly realized the threat that he posed. LUG attempted to track down the whereabouts of the transmission and the location of his base, but they were unsuccessful. It was not until mid-1989 that they got a lead about a military installation hidden in the desert of Arizona. The location fit with their search radius and seemed to be where the warheads were being shipped. The League forces attacked the installation, but were captured in a trap. Bart ransomed off the agents for several million dollars. Several of the LUG agents that were captured, were bent on revenge. It was reported that three of the men were eventually killed by Bart (or the Dread). The remaining four retired from LUG. Little is known of their whereabouts. Bart's name came up several times after that, being involved in various crimes and espionage. Each time Bart had either escaped or succeeded in his mission. He is now listed in the top ten of LUG's most wanted. |
